Title

Goodbye, Dan

Christopher Fowler
image_1940-Local-Universe There will be no usual post today because I just read that Dan Terrell, longtime friend of this site, has passed away. To have someone you've never met write so eloquently, vividly and intelligently on so many subjects makes that person a good friend. Distance is unimportant - like minds can cross universes. Thank you, Dan, and good night.

Same here, I'm a relative newcomer but Dan's words & comments were a fixture, I'll miss him too. Thanks, admin.

Dan's warm, informative and funny posts just seemed to set the tone for this site beautifully-an oasis of civility, good humour and arcane bookishness, in the scary wilderness of the internet. This is incredibly sad, and words seem inadequate. Best wishes and condolences to his family and friends.

Oh no, that's awful. Dan was such a large part of this site. It says much for him that though we never all met, we still feel his loss. Thoughts very much with his family.

This is such sad news. He always came over as such a civilised, cosmopolitan and thoughtful commentator with a wide range of reference. Thank you Helen, for keeping us in touch, and much sympathy to Heike.

Yes, I second Bob and Gareth. Dan set a high standard. He is a great loss.

Says much about the man that as soon as you said his name I knew he was one of ours. Sad news.

Due to technical issues, and life in general, I've not been active on this site for some time, but I still lurk when I can, and this news has saddened me more than I can say. In my mind's eye I often pictured Dan as the perfect melding of John's manners and charm, and Arthur's insatiable thirst for books and knowledge. The world just got a whole lot emptier. RIP Dan.

Last comment from me - the family are having a gathering on Dec. 14 at 1pm Washington DC time. Spare a thought for the family, the Washington Bach Society, and all the people with whom Dan corresponded.
