Blue cup engraved with CrimeFest 2023 winner of last laugh award

The Last Laugh Award - (really...!)

The Husband
Crimefest 2023 cup and Bryant & May book on table

By the way, back in May Chris won the Last Laugh Award at CrimeFest, the International Crime Festival convention, for Bryant and May's Peculiar London.  Really!  Chris would have been both delighted and amused at the irony...

Read a review copy of Paper Boy in advance! Proof – with the future booklist – you can’t keep a good man down (or under).

Thank you for this. I only started being a part of the blog comments/commentors a few years ago, but I find that I miss his voice and his thoughts. I looked on the site now by chance, and was pleased to see your two posts and Chris’s award. It is well-deserved and he would (I think) appreciate the irony of it all. Take care, and thank you again.

Was reading “Peculiar London” on my phone heading into London on the train, and enjoying it very much, back in March — and then was shocked to read (in Diamond Geezer’s blog, I think), that Chris had just died. I never met him, but we were born in the same year and I recognised quite a few things from those days in his memoir, “Paperboy”.
I have quite a few of the books as ebooks, but for the real book-reading experience, prefer the printed kind — and our local library has a good collection of the “Bryant and May” books.
The blog is always worth reading, too. And there’s still more to read…
Definitely he has had the last laugh!

Typical! And very fitting. And quite right. This has really made me smile.
