Happy Easter Break
And I thought Easter had been arranged so that people could sit outside Primark in Oxford Street smoking for four days. Living in multicultural London, you tend to forget about the religious importance Easter has for Christians – I seem to have spent the last couple of days wishing more friends a good Passover.
The 2001 English census used the leading question “What is your religion?”. By assuming that all participants held a religious belief, the result had 70% of the population responding ‘Christian’; an abnormal percentage against every other poll of the past decade.
So in 2011 the follow-up question ‘Are you religious?’ was asked. It yielded just 29% of the same people saying ‘Yes’ while 65% said ‘No’.
Whatever your beliefs, creeds or alternative life management systems, enjoy the break – I’ll be here in London, hiding books in unusual places…
