Polari @ South Bank

Reading & Writing

Next Friday you can combine literary pursuits with an evening of live entertainment at Polari at Southbank Centre, when the iconic arts venue is taken over by the Polari gay literary salon, with DJs and live entertainment in an evening for bookworms who like to let loose once in a while. The event takes place in the Level 5 Function Room and includes the usual mix of literary kicks and irreverant fun.

I’ll be headlining with a new piece from the sequel to ‘Paperboy’, and along with me there’ll be Rebecca Chance, Lois Walden, Oliver Fritz, Paul Harding and Mark Gevisser. Polari will be at Southbank Centre starting 7.45pm, Friday 18th February 2011. The event takes place in the Level 5 Function Room.

Admission costs £5. The last event was a sell-out, so tickets are bookable here.

A friend asked me if I had ever heard of Polari and explained that it was a private language used in the theatre so I wonder, will the readings, etc. be given in Polari? He read some to me and even the bits I thought I guessed were wrong.

I hope the event went well, Chris.
